Microexplosion of impinging water-oil emulsion droplets of varying concentrations on hot plate

The phenomenon of Microexplosion has been observed from a long time but we feel that it has not been extensively experimented. Generally; microexplosion occurs in droplets of two or more volatile liquid with different volatilities. The less volatile liquid covers the droplet surface and microexplosion occurs when the droplet reaches the superheat limit of inner liquid. Fu, Wang, Ma1 proposed a uniform model for microexplosion but that paper did not give a detailed analysis of the experiments conducted and results obtained. We tried to develop around the phenomenon of microexplosion in water-oil emulsion based on similar experimental analysis as done in Uniform model for Microexplosion1 . Lee, Kim2 discussed the dynamic behavior of water droplet impingement on a hot plate, we extend it further to explore the dynamics of oil- water emulsion droplet impingement.

Abstract

In this paper we have studied the behavior of impinging oil-water emulsion droplets of various concentrations on a hot plate. We have also studied the dynamic behavior of droplet impingement onto a hotplate by varying the height of the needle dropping the droplet. We believe that the dynamic characteristic of the droplet is very important in studying the thermal behavior of the droplet impingement on a hotplate. As the change in dynamic behavior changes the droplet physically, it effects the thermal effects of the hotplate on the droplet. We try to explore these interrelations of thermal and dynamic behaviors of varying concentrations of the oil-water emulsion droplet in this paper.
